The first in person show I saw after being sequestered in my apartment in Brooklyn during COVID was the DeKooning/Soutine show at the Barnes. I had the first COVID vaccine and was ready to risk my life by taking the bus from Port Authority to Philadelphia to see this work. It was worth it!
Maybe it was because of the in-person viewing deprivation I was coming from, but this show really hit home hard. I had the same experience at the MOMA DeKooning Retrospective at MOMA in 2012, which was also a really moving experience. His paintings, and especially the women series, really move me.
